Scarab Interior HELP!!!!!
Hey guy's,, was cleaning up the ol 29 yesterday when I noticed that the back part of the back seat was beginning to rot,,,, in fact it was pulling away from the fiberglass part where the sunpad sits on ,, and I am afraid that I"ll have to replace the back rest this winter ,,,any advise or any one know of a boat junk yard so to speak where I could rob the frame work and put my vynil on it ? As we are well aware Wellcraft has turnned a deaf ear to there customers ,,,guess it's use against the world , when it comes to repairs,,, huh?

I would just pull the seat out and carefully remove the vinyl then without distroying the pieces take the back seat apart and use the pieces as a patern to make a new one. resin coat the new one and then put the vinyl back on using ss staples.

tiboater is right on the money.. the old staples will just pull out. them run to HD and get some 5/8 green board.. one thing i can help you with this when you are putting the vinyl back on turn it upside down and first put an old sheet down. then the vinyl and foam when wood and have someone like a small child stand on the wood and contract the foan.. that will back it alot easier to put on.

Our 21 S I is doing the same thing, the edges of the back bench seat are rotting away.. How do you pull that off, do you need to get inside to do it?? It seems attached somehow havent looked at it long enough to check it all out. Also when you pulled the backrest off any other rot around that area or was it confined to just the backrest?? Anybody know a source for the multi color vinyl that came on the mid 80's scarabs.. black/purple/white etc...

Where do you live?
I just had my engine hatch redone for $250.00 by a guy I was referred to in Clear Lake. He did a friend of mine's boat. Mine looks great! He re-did the framework, padding etc... everything. The closest price I could get to his was $360.00 and that was just for the covering --utilizing my old frame and padding. His name and #: Ulysis - 281-842-7606. If you live in the area, you're welcome to take a look at mine first. Shoot me an e-mail if you'd like. |
Anyone out there know of a good upholstery shop near Atlanta, GA... ???
