whipple charged 26

One of my buddies has a 26' scarab. I think its a 97 with a 502 mpi. He says it tops out at 69gps. He is putting a whipple charger on it and expects to hit 80mph! Does that sound reasonable?

It sounds reasonable.

I have a 96 29scarab, whipple charged and run in the mid 70's. I'm still tinkering with props.

A 26 should see 80.

Is it a pretty reliable setup? What motor do you have? What was your speed before?

Its is an extremely reliable package. Tame around the docks. I was running real low 60's before.
I'll give ya a run down on the engine. I rebuilt the engine before putting on the Whipple. The only thing that had to be done after the engine broke in was to adjust the throttle sensor and blade. Once the engine loosened up it had problems idling around the docks when I turned the hydraulic steering on it.

crane gold HP roller rockers
zero gap rings, stainless marine exhaust

Hey mike thanks for the info! Ive never been on the boat, but I know that the prop isnt labbed, and it has the "water baffle" exaust system.

Thanks mike, I know he is looking for an easy way to get rid of the current exaust setup. Doesnt sound like he will find an "easy" way!

In factory stock form the boat goes 64 on GPS.
If he wipples it and installs the correct exhaust and labbed prop he will need 600hp at the prop to see 80 plus he will ABSOLUTLY need to install full hydraulic steering. No way I would ever trust the cable steering on a mid-late 90's 26 Scarab!

I take you have had a bad experience with this steering setup. I have a '96 26' Scarab with the same 502 and wonder why the steering might deficent? I wanna stay safe.

Thanks

Re: whipple charged 26

I've got a 1997 26 Scarab and with the stock 502 that boat would only go 64on GPS in perfect conditions.
To get that boat to run 80 he will have to run quite a bit of boost.
I'm estimating around 670hp (N/A540) and mine has run a best of 80.7gps. He will definitley need hyd. steering, some sort of solid mounts (custom made mine), better tabs (Victorys are a big improvment), fuel system, exhaust, and a good throttle arm to keep from breaking drives.

Shane,
From what I understand your boat and mine are completly two different boats. I don't really know what though.
