towing a Scarab 38 KV
 

I have a 2003 Chevy 1500 HD 4x4 Crew Cab w/ 6.0 V-8 auto. Do you think that this truck will pull it on a aluminum tri-axle?

How far and how often? The transmission is what you need to worry about also the touge weight on the the rear. The vortec is going to be working but will probly be okay. I would worry about the trans. I use a 1999 3500 w/7.4 auto also 4x4 crew cab single axle but I only pull about 30 miles one way and I never use over drive until above 70 mph. your boat weaght is what ?( 9,000)????

If it's not too hot out, and you dont have to pull it too far or too often, and you dont have a lot of hills, and you dont have to stop fast, and your truck has a towing package (gearing, radiator, tranny, oil coolers). You might be OK.
But I dont think that truck is rated for pulling 10,000 lbs.

the biggets conerns isn;t getting it moving, its stopping. Leave TONS of extra room to get that behemoth stopped!!!!!

I have a 38 KV and that was the first boat I pulled... ever! But I was using my C.C. GMC dually over a distance of about 250 miles with hills and one lane roads with oncoming semi's. It was a rather scary experience, to say the least. I would NOT have comfortable with anything less than that!

Safety is big concern here. Be careful and try not to go too far....

P.S. the truck had the 7.4 that took some time getting up to speed, but stability was perfect. Watch for swaying. We once pulled mine with an F-350 SRW that had a tendency to sway.

not recommended... I can be done, but its not the right equipment for the task.

One emergency maneuver will find you in trouble.
Not to mention the insurance company wont cover you

The 03 Chevy/GMC 1500 HD is the same truck as the 2500HD with the exception of a lighter tire on the 1500. The same trans, spring, brakes, and engine.The GVW is the same 8600.You should not have any trouble with 10,000 #s.

Even with a 2500HD, you're pushing the limit with a 38' Scarab unless it's an occasional short haul. Full time and long haul towing, get a 1 ton.

My 34' Scarab is 7800 dry, another 1200 in fuel, and God only knows what in terms of gear. I would imagine you're at or over 10,000, definitely after adding the trailer.

...as long as it's not raining, there's no traffic that would cause a sudden stop, you aren't heading down steep slopes (hills/mountains), you have insurance that will cover you if you hit someone (and cover your boat).

FYI - I pulled my 38 w/ a F150. It was fine except as long as I wasn't dealing with the above mentioned factors! With that being said, the Chevy doesn't have the same power curves. It comes on later. Might be a problem getting her moving from a dead stop.
