Installing Headers

I have been banging my head for a while now and really need some help.

Here is my problem.I'm planning for headers and can't figure out how to make them fit in my engine room.
I really want Stellings green but they are 15" tall and there is only room for 13".
That's why I have those ugly cast iron manifolds, they seems to be the only ones low enough to fit the boat.

I really don't like to cut in my sweet boat,so I want to hear from you guys who have headers on your KV's
Or others with good ideas of course.

I want to get rid of the disgusting iron crap on my motors.

Have you tried to fit one.
It looks like the header will hit just about dead center on the deck above.
Any chance that the deck may fit down between the tubes as they turn and go down to the transom?

You could get Lightning to custom make you a set.

I have not tried to fit one but I have been doing some serious measursing and It will unfortunately not fit the way you suggested.

I have considered Lightning, they did a great job custom made headers for my previous boat.

In that case, Lightning was almost my only choice.
The pic below tells why.

I really like the looks of the stellings with long primary tubes.May be Lightning can make them look more like stellings?

CMI can make you set to fit

I know that Bill at Victory Marine in Dickinson Texas had a 86 model kv with Stellings on it. I did have to make a couple of small cuts on the egde of the engine hatch, but they fit really good and sounded awesome! You might look him up and give him a jingle.

Tell him Shawn recommeneded him.

yeah stellings do seem to have a serious rumble to them.

I'm trying to save some money here since my plan is 8-71's next year.
So I think brand new custom made CMI big tubes is out of the question.

It seems like the way to go is try to find 2 sets of used Stelling in good condition in the 3-4000 dollar range and then go and get the jig saw.

Good luck with this and let me know what you end up doing because i am thinking about this myself. I cannot stand those cast iron headers. I had to repair one last year, sand blast, and repaint which didn't match :( And now the leak is back...

BTW, the bilge on both your boats looks very clean. Time to get to work on mine....oh yea I have to get back to the states first ;)

28 Scarab . stellings . It was not that bad putting them on just drilling the holes out larger for the tail pipes that go thru . It was LOUD.Dry tips.I wish my Hustler had the real style headers with the dri pipes other than the CMI that come on them.

I bought a 5 inch hole saw and ran it back wards to not chip the gellcoat. once your thru you can try to run it forward but it will grab and warp the hole saw.Be-sure to seal up the wood , I used 3m 5200.

remember if you go with different heads or a tall block this will change the hole location . most aftermarket heads the exhaust ports are raised . they go up and out ., not just straight up.

Thanks for the input SP, but the tail pipe holes are not the issue.
It's the limited height in the engine room.
But thank you for the pic, this is the way I hope it's going to look (x2).
