Hi new to oso

Hello, I'm new to oso , I've been to this site a few times and decided to join after reading some of the forums as a guest. I see this is the scarab forum and thought it would be the best topic forum to ask a few questions about my boat. The boat I got last july is not a scarab but a wellcraft nova spyder 1988 26 ft. I've been looking around on the web for some months about some history on the boat( I haven't found anything) as it is a special edition 'topgun' as in the Tom Cruise movie TOPGUN,which is I believe the year that movie came out,That is the graphic on the side of the boat is just as the movie title would show on the box of the video tape or dvd. The special editon 'topgun' has a kevlar hull and twin 454's. The previous owner told me it was one of eleven made. I see where, but now removed by the first owner the names goose and mav on the sides near each port and starboard seats, on the rear it said 'I feel the need for speed', which I feel needs to be put back on HA!. The boat has no keys, it has toggle switches like a stock car. The boat itself was the pride and joy of the previous owner, its probably in the best shape a boat could be for a boat of that year with motors gone through, cammed a bit, new upolstery, and the like, That said , do any of you wellcraft or scarab guys know anything of these boats?. I see from previous topics in this forum a 'Mike J' was quite guy for answers , did he have to leave from what I've read?. One thing I was looking for now is the bolster seats that came in these boats or scarabs, (I see some are the same), the previous owner put in swivel buckets (very nice seats ) to be more user friendly. I would like to find some bolsters. I'll post a few pics and hope to talk a bit with anyone that would like too , thanks Dan

Don't know any history on your boat, but thought I'd say welcome. I do like it and congradulate you on your new purchase. Looks like a very unique boat.

Like RBake said, very nice boat. I was looking at a 1988 Nova Spyder back in the early 90's
It was all yellow and with twin 454's, but I couldn't afford it and bought a Donzi Z-25 instead.

Welcome to the board! :)

Hi , thanks for your comments on the topgun spyder. I sent the carbs out to be worked over. They're new, but automotive carbs. It runs great but having to idle through a no wake area in the marina for maybe 500 yrds it wanted to load up. I hated that when trying to get out of the launch with all the other in's and out's of other boats. Haven't put the boat in yet , 32 degrees overnight tonight here in Northern MI., supposed to be a cool memorial weekend here sucks huh. I think the water is like 40 degrees

Talking about your carbs, try to get rid of those Taiwan made chrome fuel lines
It's for your own safety.

those fuel lines are no good huh? thats what was on it,what do you run or recommend. 38kv you have a great looking boat. My brother had a 1980 38 ft scarab, he sold it, now he has a 47 ft pantera one of two made I guess, I dont recall the story behind it. It's a nice boat, looking down it the thing seems to go forever

Don't panic, but I've seen those fuel lines crack and that could cause a fire.

This is what I use, there is even a 1/8" fitting for your pressure gauges. :)

welcome and congrats boat looks great. i know how difficult it to get info on "'old boat"this past feb bought a '82 scarab w/o motors and drives and have completely redone boat. when i called wellcraft they developed hearing problems when i told them what year it was. very difficult finding any history which is what brought me to oso. monday or tuesday will sea trial. can't wait to splash "DA BOAT". weather has not kept me from the wet stuff. hell i've been wearing shorts since feb. i'm gettin a little testy. even my employees have been calling my engine guy to hasten christening. the peasents are ready to revolt cuz da boss feels da need 4 speed. really love your boat. there is no cant only wont.
