P22 with a 496 HO

Guys,

You may need more power...The most speed I saw from my 22 was 77 on GPS, not much fuel, going down river. (ZZ 502 525hp) Not to tell your business, you r going to need a lot more power. Not to mention a good set of trim tabs, definatly Hydraulic steering. At about 70 she WILL "chine- walk" So be prepaired, over 70 they turn into a completly diffrent animal!!

How to get a 496 -P22 over 80mph!

Put some Raylar upgrades on that P22 amd you will definitly see higher than 80+ mph.

I run a Pachanga 22 with a 496HO.

My best run was 71,3mph (GPS) with a non-modified Bravo1 24p = 11% slip. This is at 5300 where the revlimiter hits in. Chine-walking is really an issure here. I tried late this summer with a P26 but got way to high slip with it. My top speed note was 68mph@5100 = 18% slip.

My drive hight is cavitation plate 40mm above hull bottom. Not sure what X-dim that equals. I also have a highly textured bottom paint.

The plan for this winter is to repaint the bottom with a 2 component high gloss paint. Probably raise the drive height 1-2". Perhaps a IMCO 2" shortie. I heard this has a good chance to reduce the chine walking problem. I am also planning to somehow improve the air intake, since I feel a noticeable difference while driving with the hatch up. A prop bluepring will also be on scedule. Finally I concider either getting rid of the mufflers, or perhaps building some "scilent choise" plumbing to bypass them at will.

I have a hard time finding out if anyone has any experiance in whether this mod will make any performance difference. Many says not on ha 350, but whataboute a 496?

Goal after theese mods is to hit 75mph (13% slip with the 26p)

Btw. Dan who startet this thread, are you the same Dan I have been emailing with? In that case, I am curious aboute hearing from you after finally getting WOT results.

Chine Walk

When you say the Pachanga is a different animal past 70 do you mean it settles down?

A P22 at 70 with out tabs is dangerous but fun if you have the nerve. The man that originally restored mine put a Dart 565 C.I. injected dynoed at 615 HP. I did not see the boat run because the owner only made 1 pass with the mechanic that built the engine and parked it. He would not sell it with the 565. Story is at 65 mph he nailed it and ran a speed in the low 90's and was to scared to grab the throttle. Chine walk was out of control. Now i have a stock 330 HP with a small supercharger and ran 72 without changing the prop that would slip like crazy. These speeds are on a GPS. Have fun.

Last Blast

Me and Old Man Dave going to try out a new prop on his 454 Supercharged P22. See if we can get it to hook up and go. Will post some speeds next week.
