can it be done? a TR-2 outdrive mated to a Mercruiser d-tronic 250?

I have the drive with the gear which had been mated to a Mercruiser 330 engine but a d-tronic diesel is available locally and I am wondering what hurdles would have to be overcome to mate the diesel...
