Understood. I'll check for it. It's cable operated for gear direction so it's something to check off the list as I see how it could cause trouble.

The neutral safety switch has two sets of contacts to prevent cranking in neutral but also has another set of contacts to let the ECM know it's either in forward or reverse? ...

The neutral safety switch, if it were bad would still allow it to throttle up? I know it will not start in forward, unsure about reverse. But the outdrive is mechanical, not electric shift.
