Re: Metal on drive plug magnets

Yeah. The majority of those 40 hours were at 4000-4500 rpms, and I bet around 5 or 6 at WOT.

Re: Metal on drive plug magnets

Yeah. Of those 40 hours, most were at 4000-4500 rpms and I bet at least 5 or 6 were at WOT. I figure your going to have a little metal grinding off when you run hard, right?

Metal on drive plug magnets

I drained my drive oil (Bravo 1) and had metal fines on the drain plug magent and the vent plug magnet. Just enough to cover the magnet tips.

Is this normal? I can't remember if I've ever had...

Re: Good Day

I doubt that. Not on GPS and Not with 425hp / 496HO..... If you are being honest, that is an exception. I'll give you 65. There are tons of 25 OL's around here, I'm around them all the time. Never...

Procharger on 496 Mag

I hear about guys procharging 496 Mags. Do they first upgrade it to a 496HO with a cam and ECM change, and then add the procharger?

Re: 7' beam vs 8' beam

Guys,

The older 25' Checkmates had a 7'-5" beam, the newer ones (259's and 270's) have a 8'-6" beam. Both models taper down the sides of the hull to a very narrow bottom. My 270 Checkmate is only...

Re: Good Day

They've always been running faster than same size Baja's. Your 259 is 4000lbs, the 25OL is 4750lbs. Your 259 has a narrow bottom (approx. 6'-3" wide at transom), the 25OL is almost as wide at the...

Re: 25 Outlaw vs. 253 Checkmate

A 25' Checkmate with 496HO will run low 70's on GPS. The Baja 25OL's with 496HO run strong but have a hard time breaking 65 mph.

The 25OL runs good in the rough, but so does the 25' Checkmate even...

Re: Hydraulic steering over 70 mph

So, with these systems, do you eliminate the power steering pump all together?

Hydraulic steering over 70 mph

Why is this a good idea? The regular stock power steering won't hold up? What are the issues here?

Thanks

Re: Exhaust manifold water rail

I’m talking about in particular, the 496HO. My 496HO exhaust manifolds have water rails. My understanding is they come with or without water rails.

Exhaust manifold water rail

I noticed some manifolds have them, some don't. What is their function?

Thanks,

Re: 259 Convincor w/ 600hp

Yes I agree, the porpoising is not the result of driver error, it is a characteristic of these hulls, but you can use drivng technique (trim, throttle and tab work) to correct or control it. I think...

Re: 259 Convincor w/ 600hp

Russ, I here ya....I also think your 251 is even more difficult, my 270 (259) being the easiest of the three 25' models they have (251, 253, and 259).

Re: 259 Convincor w/ 600hp

I have to say also that, regarding these 25'ers and the porpoising issue, It is better also when you are running a little more hp. I have a 496HO/425hp and I would have to admit it makes it a litttle...

Re: 259 Convincor w/ 600hp

For best performance you should not keep the same prop on that you use for top speed when you put a load of people in a 25’ Checkmate….Prop it to run close to max rpms at WOT for the load you have....

Re: 496 sea pump impeller questions

I was peeking at it last night. Yes the alternater serves as the belt tension adjustment...Looks like one of the bolts that attaches the pump housing bracket also holds the idler pulley bracket....

Re: 496 sea pump impeller questions

Thanks guys.

I just picked up the impeller and the guy said there is an idler pulley that you loosen. He didn't say anything about the alternator. Maybe I misunderstood him.

Re: 496 sea pump impeller questions

Thanks for the reply.

My problem is I don't see how or which pulley to loosen on the 496. It almost looks like I could un bolt the pump housing and slide it up, then slide it back into the belt...

496 sea pump impeller questions

How do you loosen the belt, or can you just slide the pump housing out and slide back into the belt when done?

Also, now that the water is out, do I need to grease the impeller or something for...

Re: how much oil does a 496HO use?

Just wanted to know if this sounds about right, thought maybe the new 496's burnt a little less.

how much oil does a 496HO use?

I'm burning about 1/2 quart every 5 hours. Running fairly hard, probably a good 1 to 1.5 hours of each 5 hours is at WOT. My motor has low hours, around 100. Checkmate 270 Convincor. Runs very...
