drill/cutting and punching it out sounds like a good idea to me. I really doubt the thing will unscrew.

If by chance the threads are damaged in the housing, what can I do?

Can I only use a IITR...

Jeff,

Yes, I have the factory manual on the drive and transmission. It doesn't discuss thread repair if needed or removal if it's locked in by corrosion.

I have considered cutting out a section...
