I just saw a 1,800 foot off-shore comment in an article. So, you are really close. At that point in the lake I would expect the swimmers to have gone to the western shore since it was so much closer...

Jon, I had not seen this 2,000 foot figure before. Reports said that the boat went ashore "south of Bear Point". There is a cove there making the lake a bit wider.

Lake Norman is a great place. There are rules of the road that boaters must follow - otherwise we have accidents. Going at high speed increases the risk of an accident - and not seeing the other...
