I had a similar problem and used ties to keep open since it steered "heavy" and lost 4 mph on a Baja 24 Outlaw. Was a simple fuse in the power line.

Water Penetration

I have a center console with relatively low freeboard. It drives me crazy that water comes in when stopped or at dock through the scuppers. An easy but not so smart a fix is a stopper on the inside...
