pull the top cap of the drive and look at the gears and bearings if it looks good pull the drive and see how it cranks.

the module in the distributer tells it when to fire the injectors there is a white/green wire and a white/red wire coming from the distributor if you ground one of those wire with the key on you...

check the gromett where the water tube goes from the impeller housing to the upperdrive I have had them split or turn sideways and it will cause that kinda problem.
