My title to this thread may be misleading. The only thing that is salt water proof is something that never comes in contact with salt water!

Take it easy there Cig1. Motors sat in salt water for about 10 days a yr. while on vacation, and sometimes a few days after use other times before flushing. Riser gaskets changed at least twice a yr....

A friend suggested milling the top and possibly welding some aluminum to fill in the corroded areas. Actually weld 1st, grind to shape then mill to a flat surface.

This is really nobody's fault. I flush the motors regularly but not religiously. I do half my boating in salt water, so maybe I should not have bought aluminum manifolds to begin with. They are about...

I've got about 10 hrs on the boat so far this yr. so hopefully the damage is limited.

No water in oil. The boat is a 31 Sonic.

Well, looks like another 10 grand for me!!! I started to notice a lot of steam out the exhaust, then some blue smoke. I took off my risers and water passages are corroded and evidence of water...
