Make sure the casting tabs inside the valve cover...

Make sure the casting tabs inside the valve cover have been ground out . The bulldog covers have a 1409 # stamped insidee gen 5 and 6 have a 1251 or something like that

Someone must have slipped.a late set of valve covers in there on ya . Or something si way not right . The blue merc valve covers for the bowtie motors are unique , cast aluminum for gen 4 head ....

That's why some of those rockers have the rear corner ground a bit , those have to be in the right spot and the cover will bolt down normally with just the o ring

If it was leaking water in the oil wouldn't be a bad idea at all to pull the pan ,take a peek at bearings have some 12 point sockets of good quality handy just in case the lunati - h beam rod gods...

And the 4 or so roller rockers with the corners...

And the 4 or so roller rockers with the corners ground off are clearances to fit the blue aluminum mercruiser valve covers ,have to put those back in the same spot
