It cools on sheer volume. You are moving so much water through the block that it doesn't have a choice but to cool. All I can say is that it works to keep the engine ice cold.

I would run one stage through the engine and the other through the exhaust. Just take the water from the thermostat housing and dump it overboard. This will give the engine all the water that it can...

I use the 2 stage pumps on the larger engines....

I use the 2 stage pumps on the larger engines. Especially ones with bellhousing coolers found in a speedmaster or Arneson setup. I run one stage of the pump to each cooler so they each get cold...

I never put water through an intercooler at idle. I always force feed them with a transom mounted pickup. They just don't need water at idle. Also, if you ever develop a leak, it can cause a problem...
