Depends what you compare it to.

Stay with Merc's recomendations. They know a little about their motors installed in boats. And sometimes they still get bit by reversion and intrusion.

Yup, but you want the rate of fall within or greater than Merc's outline for this and also for the engine to not ingest water coming out of exhaust during cam overlap.

I run 4" short length risers (eddie marine manifolds/risers) into 4" - 3" reducer and 3" tips with screw type muffler inserts. Runs 73. Single 5.7.

The muffler inserts do cost me almost a little...
