Thumbs up Re: $6,000 for 5.7 engine work?

Well everyone, it appears the engine is now siezed. Throwing my hands in the air. Talked to a reputable (from what I hear) mechanic. 3-4K rebuild the merc 5.7 ready to run. A lot cheaper than the...

Re: $6,000 for 5.7 engine work?

I don't want to get too crazy. I was planning on selling the boat after the season anyway (got my eye on a 336) so I'm not going to do much/spend big money. I just want to get it running again...

Re: $6,000 for 5.7 engine work?

I agree, it says that engine is great for 4x4. Doesn't sound like it's a marine engine. I want an engine for marine use. Does "crate" engine mean it's for vehicles only or are there marine...

Re: $6,000 for 5.7 engine work?

Thanks for the help guys. The water sat in the engine all winter (phoenix) as I did not know there was a problem. I'm going to Mexico this weekend. When I get back maybe I'll try to get the heads...

Re: $6,000 for 5.7 engine work?

BILLK
4k sounds good, but you said the block was not new. Was it machined? Because of rust in my cylinders (supposedly) I need to machine the block (I think he said that was $2,500) or get a new...

Re: $6,000 for 5.7 engine work?

I'll try and keep this short. I pulled the plugs and starboard side from the front, the 1st and third cylinders had water drain out of them. Port side, the 2nd cylinder had water drain out of it. ...

1998 Baja 5.7 248 hours. Thought I had a starter problem. Mechanic came out and there was water in the cylinders 3 of 8. Says he needs to pull the engine, machine it, and rework the heads. Will...
