I use a 504 and if I'm not mistaken the 504 has the blue ring for use with Mark 4 blocks where the filter pad is recessed. I think you needed the 503 for a Gen 6. They don't use that spacer. Probably...

I believe on a Mark 4 you would need the Earl's 504 with the spacer to clear the recess of the oil pad.
