Re: Help with alpha gimble bearing!

I have changed several in the last year. The first one was a horrible task. The slide hammer method sucks big time! I pulled the old one using a length of 1/2" threaded rod, nuts, washers, and a...

Re: Alternator Draining Batteries?

Hot wiring an alternator like that definitely will drain your battery. I used to do that in a car because I was broke and didn't have the money to fix it at the time. It will kill your battery.

Re: Help!! Oil shooting out of the dipstick!

I watched your video and am wondering about the amount of smoke/steam coming out of that engine. Is it smoke? It seems to linger a bit. If it is, that engine has a serious problem with the...

Re: Hey! Engine Guys! Question For You!

Correcting slip is all about having things set up properly in the boat, trimming correctly and having the right prop. Are you running trim tabs? What position are they in? If you are driving the...

Re: Help!! Oil shooting out of the dipstick!

If oil is coming up through the dipstick, then the crankcase is pressurizing beyond what the breather can handle. You definitely have some kind of problem related to your pistons/rings/bores. I...

Re: Hey! Engine Guys! Question For You!

I don't know what rpm peak horsepower occurs on your engines, but you should definitely see an rpm change if you are only changing pitch. If the props are different types, then that may be why you...

Re: New motor won't line up

I was talking about up and down, not side to side. If is is going right through the center, then you are close. Remember that the rear mount points for the engine are in front of the gimbal...

Re: New motor won't line up

When I replaced the engine in my boat, I was having a similar problem. It turns out that the engine height was just fine and the problem was angular misalignment of the gimbal bearing. I determined...

Re: Bravo 1 outdrive help!!!

I did the same exact thing. The cable end didn't clip in and you pushed the shifter back into the recess in the outdrive. Pull the outdrive back off and get the clip out. It might be tricky to get...

Re: Bravo 1 outdrive help!!!

It's the gimbal bearing. It can go out of angular alignment by design. Take the alignment tool, insert it through the bearing as if you were checking alignment and tap the end of the tool lightly....

Re: Oil pressure sender problems

I had the same problem and it was driving me crazy thinking that I was melting down a motor due to an oil problem. Mine turned out to be the connection right at the sender. I tightened it up a bit...

Re: outdrive u-joints

If you can't find a mercruiser dealer, I am almost 100% that those are automotive universal joints. I am sure that NAPA could help you for about 1/3 the price. I had already bought mine when I...

Re: Hydraulic steering installation question/problem?

I had some questions along the same lines and called IMCO. They said it is OK to go up some, but never down. I don't know if 4" is pushing it. I would call them and ask, they were really helpfull...

Re: outdrive u-joints

It should be a half day job for a do-it-yourselfer as long as things go well. You just need to pull your drive, pop the c-clips on the joints, pull the joints and put it back together in reverse...

Mercruiser Drive reservoir overflow

I have a donzi 22zx with a bravo 1. I relocated the drive oil reservoir to the transom a few inches lower than it used to be when I installed headers. I have a drive shower and just changed the...

Re: Need some jetski advice

I've been jetskiing since the early 90's. Picking up a ski that doesn't run is not a problem for me as long as it's really cheap and I can check it out prior to buying it. I do all of my own work...

Re: New Smyrna Machine shops ?

It's not in New Smyrna, but Stradley's in Titusville is an excellent machine shop. They should be able to turn them around in a couple of days and I'm sure that you'll be happy with their work.

See ya,

Fuel pressure regulator question

I was wondering if any of you are using a rising rate fuel pressure regulator in a mild upgrade application. I am running a 502 mag mpi in a Donzi 22zx. The only engine upgrade is a pair of CMI...
