Yipper, got it done, starter is still a pain, too bad we couldn't do the same with the starter bolts, or atleast one to help with alignment.

Hi Folks, the starter is acting up on my Formula 271/502 and I am hoping to change it myself.
Access to tight but should be doable after moving the water hoses.

A friend helped me trace the wiring and it turned out be the neutral switch and the boat is now running as normal.

there is definitely a fuse there, it is at the end of the big power cable at the starter.

I had to remove the sea water hoses to get at the starter and wiring...

thanks, I didn't know how to bypass the neutral switch. now I do.

There is a big fuse on my unit, it's a small block that two wires run thru, it's even in my wiring diagram.

Shorted the solenoid and it kicked, could be the big fuse on the power cable to the starter.
