My experience with the ignition sensor is that the motor will not run well or not run at all with a failed sensor.

That's a good idea. You probably will be able to tell just running on the hose with no oil cooler. The oil will warm quickly and the pressure will tell the tale. Check the oil temp with a temp gun...

You said you have 500HP' "S" so you have twins? The merc mounts are LH and RH with separate part numbers so the LH won't fit on the RH motor and vice versa.

If the block has been decked or the heads milled the intake can get out of alignment. I drilled bigger holes in the intake so the bolts would thread into the heads instead of machining the intake.

I bought one as a spare and to go to the dyno with. Worked fine. Use the coil supplied. Other coils like the MSD blaster did not work which we found out after 1/2 day troubleshooting.
