I wouldn't try to remove with just a pin wrench, the special tool is a joke IMO (bad design) but has several hardened pins which to hold about 3/4 around. Need to find someone that could loan it. ...

Agree, ECM's don't just fix them selves so they were not the issue.

Just guessing, but there was a bad connection, and remove and re-install the ECM cleaned the contacts so it started working

Later plugs were changed to Champion RV15YC4 or AC Delco MR43T or NGK RB6FS

In short using what you have is within spec
