Hey, the same thing we are doing Oct 2 and 3 for the Solomons Island race in MD. Oh, and we have golf on Oct 1 for those that would like to play, all the details at www.solomonsrace.com :drink::drink::drink:
BTW, it's too bad that AC was called but it was the right decision, and it will mean a larger boat count for Solomons and the National Championships. It was a great event last year in Cambridge.. |

Thank you Cotner Trailers.com for making one of the best Pit displays I have seen !!! :drink:

As for spectators, I don't know... I had my daughters christening yesterday and Dee is the godmother so we had to pull her away from the races for most of the day... ;):coolcowboy::grinser010: She made it back to AC for the awards party though.:drink: |

Being the Director of Water Ops for the race I can help clarify what the real reasons were for the cancellation:
1) Due to the breaking rollers up to 1 mile offshore the race course had to be moved 2 miles off of the beach. This was outside of the "permited" area that was approved by the USCG. (my opinion - technical B.S.) 2) The inlet was very bad (see sharkey's pictures) and if a boat broke down and needed a tow into Atlantic City Inlet, there was a real chance that that boat being towed or both boats would be swamped and capsized. 3) The rollers are so tall offshore (12-15ft+) that if a raceboat were to break on the course, there was a good possiblity that an upcoming raceboat would not be able to see the broken down boat until they were literally on top of them. So with #2 & #3 said, it was definately the right call to make no matter how dissappointed we all were. Other than the sea conditions it was an absolutely magnificent day weather wise. A huge thank you to all of the volunteers, the racers and the fans who came out yesterday! |
Dave, IMHO the reasons were 100% justified.... No sense in someone getting hurt or worse killed.
Seeing the pics of that Donzi almost capsizing in the inlet did it for me! |

Disappointing, but absolutely the right decision. I dont think anyone can disagree. We like big water (4-6s, 5-7s), but not 10-12s.
We were out testing on Saturday and it was hairy. Sunday was much worse. Could have gotten ugly real fast. |
I just finished processing another 210 images from the Inlet...
After seeing these, everyone will understand why the race was called off... |

It's about time you got the pictures on here! - LOL
Thank you for the work you and other photographers do, you put in time take alot of pictures (hopefully sell enough stuff to make a couple dollars?) but most of all you allow people like me a chance to be somewhere I'm not. Thanks again for all your efforts and time! Joe Gere |

People I spoke with from Trump said this place would not be this crowded after Labor Day weekend. That was certainly a positive sign they would want us to come back next year...:drink:
