To many racing organizations,to many different classes in the different organizations and the worst part of that is they schedule on purpose races the same weekends to try and hurt the other orgs, also you have followers of different groups and that is fine but if it was really about the racing and competition the racers would get together and race together, instead it seems to be more about the partys and my stuff is bigger and better than yours and if I cant have things my way I will just go some where else until I get my way.If I still raced the last thing I would want is to race against my self,it would be like watching paint dry and then to wave the checkerd flag like you just did something amazing, well you did not not you just proved to everyone that you have a cool boat and you do not care about competition you just want the flag to hang up some place and tell everyone you won but I would bet they do not tell everyone they raced in a class by themselves. If you are a racer not a poser you should be there for the competition not as they now call it the show,F*** THAT IF YOU WANT A SHOW GO TO BROADWAY if you want to be a racer go where there is COMPETITION.New York this year sucked for everyone that wasted there time going there period and if you do not agree you are not there for the competition and should take up poker runs or playing chess.I can remember being in New York with boat counts in the 70s and being in Baltimore with 100 plus and in Key West with 150 boats, everyone was on the same page and everyone there to race not for a show.

Excellent Photos Tim considering what you were up against ! - A Shame the NYC event came to this - 10 boats ? 12 classes ? 15 Spectators ? In my opinion the event should have been canceled for lack of interest ! maybe a limited number of races a year - say 4 - would be best -

Glad I still have the memories of the 80s and 90s - !

Thanks Phil.

I mainly went to shoot the event to gain more experience with shooting under those conditions. Not to mention, the backdrop is excellent !

I will say this, For all of the people that felt that with OPA having a race the same day as SBI in NY, would hurt the boat count in NY, I think should take a look at the numbers.

OPA Pt Pleasant Beach Race last year was the same weekend as the SBI race in NY. No matter how many rumours were started that the OPA race was canceled each event carried their own.

Here is a quote from last year:

Double Trouble
Simmons
National Guard
Crazy Chicken
Activator SVL(formerly Adrenelin Rush)
P5(waitiing on the name)

This was off the top of one of the racers head, will call me back after he is done with lunch, I was told 21 total, but I refuse to post misinformation.

From SBI New York Race

Thanks to TNTOffshore...

Coach
Now that OPA was not on the same weekend, this year's NY EVENT had just 10 boats. Not even half of what was talked about last year.

I think it is safe to say, OPA had no effect on the SBI racing in NY no matter what date it was on.

People want to race where there is a fair chance of winning against competition. OPA provides just that.

Therefore has grown to be the largest racing organization in terms of boat counts in the country. They must be doing something right.....

There was a day OPA had their 11 boats racing off Seaside under the old management. When Smitty took over, it only grew from there ..... Who would have thought ???

Great shots Tim! I remember all the great races we had in NY with SBI. I hope to see those days once again. Oh, and Bubba and SBI ain't going nowhere! Like I've always said, in the end there will be cockaroaches, twinkes and John Carbonell !
