I have a '99 F350 SRW PSD with a hitch that says:
Weight Distributing 10,000lbs
Weight Carrying 5,000lbs
V5
My questions are:
1) Can this SRW truck SAFELY tow a Cafe or TG or should I have a dually?
2) Is the hitch good enough or should I get something better?
3) My tires are BFG t/a load range D, are these fine?
This rig pulled my 28 + steel trailer like nothing, but I want to make sure I'm not at risk with the bigger boats.
I don't want to push the bounds of reason or my insurance policy, getting a smaller boat or better truck will happen before I risk my truck/boat investment.

As for the truck handling it. Contact Troutly here on the board. He has the same truck that he uses to tow his 38' Formula. That should give you some good feedback. I have a feeling that you'll be OK or he wouldn't be doing it.
Take care,

Yeah, go figure I have a 2001 F-350 crew cab drw and it has the same hitch 5k (can't figure what FORD was thinking on that one). I just ordered a 12k Curt hitch to replace it.....BZ

Towed my T/G back from Fla this spring with my F-250..
Air bags are going on now & back to a E range stock size tire.
I did not like the "squish" & the tracking of the bigger D tires.
Truck did fine, Probably time to put a chip in her tho..

I just ordered a f350 crew cab but i got it without the hitch and am having a hitch welded on. I had a bolt on hitch come loose years ago. it's worth the piece of mind for $300. all the factory hitches are bolt on.

The dually will be more stable on the highway, but it is not necessary if you tow within reason.. Upgrade the hitch tho...

I replaced the tires on my Ram 2500 V-10 with BF Goodriche's "E" commercial tires. Made a noticable improvement towing my heavy 311 Formula but the ride when the truck is empty is much harsher than with the Michelen's that came on it.
