Default 24 pass. foot rest project

Hey Guys,

A few things that always bugged me about my boat is the lack of a pass. side foot rest and a place to store a few small things. Well, this is what I came up with. Be honest, tell me what you think.

I wanted to keep any permanant scaring to a minumum so I used 3 1/4 bolts, through bolted into the cabin. Pic1 & 2.

I wrapped a piece of carpet around the bottom and back to keep the deck and bulkhead from getting scratched up. pic3

I added the top piece. pic4

I hinged it to create a small compartment. pic5

Finished! pic6

My passengers always complain about not having a good foot hold. Also, having a place to throw a wallet, phone, keys, etc. is nice.

Looks good, and nice idea of storage.
In my 24 the footrest was made of pvc board, glued to the deck and wrapped in pirelli tile.

Dave - looks great!! Simple, clean, and mutli-functional - I love it! You now get the dubious McGuyver title passed from me to you......

Dave, Looks great. I have thought about that for my 24. Now I can copy yours.

I added a grab bar on the side, I had a number of comments that there is no way to hold on as a passanger...

Ya, the grab handle is next on the list.

The foot rest looks like a great addition for when you ride sitting.
How about when you ride standing? Will it be in the way?
We do run standing in the rough; about 25% of the time.
I had copied an idea from JMK and added a swing down step. The step works to help get onto the deck and gives the passenger a foot hold when running.
As for a passenger side handle, I would like to add one too.

My passengers and I don't ever stand, even in the roughest water. I'm still thinking of going to buckets like t-mone's boat.

I think I've said this before; if you do go to buckets, I'd like to buy your bolsters...

We'll see....

Here's another angle of the footrest. I don't think it will be in the way if someone wanted to stand. It might actually help. You know what happens when you are designing something. You spend hours thinking about it and sometimes overlook issues. I'll see how it works out. If it doesn't, I only have three small holes to fix (pic1). It protrudes about as far as the dash on the driver's side.

It looks good and great idea.

I am wondering if the top hatch bounce up and down if your out by yourself in the ruff?

My cabin hatch used to do that until I put a latch on it.

I am going to put some velcro to hold it down. I had the same problem with my cabin hatch top. Velcro did the trick.
