At 250-300lbs lighter than a 496, it would seem attractive.
Maybe a pair in a smaller 28-30ft'er?

How does that compare to the Merc 6.0?

I'm not an engine expert but one thing I always hear mentioned is torque. The HP may be comparable but don't BB's typically have more torque?

Twin 375-400 hp smallblocks make a very nice setup in a 28-30' It is most likely the route I would go if I ever sold my present boat, On second thought I would build twin 427 smallblocks in the 550-600 range

Dave, not disagreeing there. But you aren't fitting 2 bbc's in your next y2k. All i know is these have more HP than a merc sbc. I don't see any torque #s.

And if $(or room) wasn't a factor, twin ilmors would be lighter than twin sbcs. You'd need more than 7ft beam(ala y2k).

Mercury offered the 377 Scorpion for a couple years which was a similar package. They were handbuilt and badged under Mercury Racing. There were a few twin engine 28 Donzis built as such, but they are rare to see today.

The Scorpion was built as a high RPM racing motor. I don't know about the Crusader, but with that coupled transmission, I have to guess it's best suited for ski-boats and cruisers with V-drives/Inboards; and lower RPMs with tall torque numbers.

Mercruiser Remanufacturing is building a 383 Mag Stroker engine with 350 HP and 390 ft. lbs. of torque. They say it is an ideal replacement for the old 454's. Only available from Reman.

Brian, yea it shows its weight w/ a tranny. could this even be hooked up to a bravo? and it shows its max rpm @ 5200, cruise @ 4000.

The HP rating appears to be at the Propshaft THRU that transmission. I guess it depends on what bell housing you can bolt on, as to what you could bolt to it instead. It does not look like a bad package. Perhaps a pair would suit a 31 Sonic or 29 Formula pretty well if its Bravo adaptable.

I bet you could slap them into a 35 Fountain and run, 110, 115 maybe?

at the boat shows last year here in N E they had the bob tail ones to hook up to the bravos .A friend bought a 350 325hp for his 16footer it had a 305 210hp in it. He still does not have it in yet the old motor did 42or so. hope to hit 55 to 60 with the new set up.
