HRPA Hampton Roads Powerboat "Rendezvous"
What: Hampton Roads Powerboat Rendezvous/Poker Run
When: August 17-19, 2007
Where: Norfolk's Downtown Waterside Venue
By Whom: Hampton Roads Powerboat Association (HRPA) & Harbour Marine
Why: 'Cause we can!
Base Registration: $250
This year is the running of the all new HRPA Powerboat "Rendezvous" and poker run (formerly affiliated with the Little Creek Regatta the last 6 years). The poker run course will consist of leaving downtown Norfolk and running past the largest Naval base in the world with it's compliment of Aircraft Carriers, surface combatants, and attack submarines, which is also located across from the famous battleground of the Monitor & Virginia. We will visit stops inside Little Creek Harbor (home of the SEAL's and the Navy's Amphibious Assault base); Lynnhaven Inlet and it's waterfront venues; out and into the Atlantic Ocean to Rudee Inlet at the southern end of Virginia's Beach's resort strip; City of Hampton for a lunch & social stop, and return to Norfolk's Waterside marina. Our post-run dinner, party and awards ceremony will be conducted at "BlackFinn's" Restaurant & Pub directly overlooking the marina.
On Friday August 17th at Norfolk's very cool Waterside venue, we will conduct our Captain's meeting and afterwards fall into a social w/ some complimentary beverage out on the deck. Afterwards you and your companion/s can roam off into the nightlife without having to drive or use a taxi as mulitple venues are contained under one roof. Immediately next door to Waterside is the Towne Point Park venue where a Friday night TGIF party is held. Just a couple of blocks away lies many very nice pub/tavern's for a more quaint environment. Also a short ferry ride across the way takes you to downtown Portsmouth where the N'Telos Amphitheater is located for a quick Friday concert, and many other very nice eateries and pubs in the historic district. Saturday nights there's always something going on at Towne Point Park as well like free concerts.
Overnight marina slips are included in the fee for both Friday and Saturday nights. Hotels are directly adjacent to the Waterside facility for those preferring more substantial accomodations and reservations must be made individually. Group discounts are still being pursued.
For the lazy day after on Sunday, you can visit the Nauticus Maritime Center, the Battleship Wisconsin, nearby McArthur memorial and mall, or just lay around in the soft grass under the sun at Town Point Park.
For registration forms and sponsorship opportunity's go to the HRPA website listed below and click on the "Rendezvous" button at the top. While you're there check out the calendar and Weekend pages for the many other local powerboat happenings during the summer of 2007 in the Hampton Roads area.

Looks like everyone involved has been working very hard to make this come together. "CONGRATS" on a job well done. The price as usual is a great deal. This is a great run and I know everyone will have a blast.

Rick - although this is the first year of this exact event I would recommend that it be advertised that it's really the 5th year (or whatever year it really is) since the only thing changed is the association with the Regatta. We can still donate funds to St. Judes if desired among other possible charities.

Shaping up to be a full summer already. Ocean Marine Poker Run is only six weeks away, and what a great way to kick things off. Then it's off to the races on the summer. I've got a feeling this is going to be a fast boating season.
