Investment property in Conroe/Woodlands, Texas?

I would love to invest in a single-family residence in Lake Conroe or the Woodlands areas of Houston as an investment. Ideally, I would like to furnish the home and offer it for rent for about 9 months each year.
Because I have family in the Woodlands area, I would like to occupy the residence myself during January, May and October, and therefore, it would only be available for short-term furnished rentals of a three month duration.
Hey Texas crew, is something like this plausible?

Go to the Topps boatclub forum and ask this same question. Many of the guys boat and live on or around Lake Conroe and could help you out. I think a couple of the Conroe Topps guys are involved in Real Estate.

I live in Walden on Lake Conroe. I have a condo on the water. It sounds like your best play would be condo, so you wouldn't have to worry about maintence, yard,ect. There is a pretty big demand for fully furnished condos for rent. ALOT of the units are used for weekend and week long rental. It would probably cover your mortgage and association fees. There is a company called TMC, owned Mike Maher, they manage private owned condos for owners and rent them and make sure they are kept up. Especially if your going to try to use it during the year, this would definately give you the flexibility to to that. There are some really nice waterfront condos around the lake in all different sizes and price ranges. I would suggest staying in a larger neighborhood that had alot to offer such as golf, tennis, marinas, and dinning. It will make it easier to resale. Let me know if you need any help.

I have a few spec homes completed or almost completed in the area starting at $160,000 to $300,000 located in Walden, Cape Conroe, and Grand Harbor if you decide not to go with the condo route.
