It's only money...
"Maritimo Offshore’s championship hopes were shattered at the Austrian Grand Prix on Sunday, 14 September after a terrifying 140mph crash on the opening lap destroyed their million dollar race boat. Thankfully both Bill Barry-Cotter and Peter McGrath emerged unscathed on what was left of the boat. Standing on the deck just moments after their ordeal, the humour that stands them apart in the championship shone through. “I don’t think she will start, Bill.” said Peter McGrath."
"Maritimo Offshore led into the first corner, but their main rivals in the championship race, Spirit of Norway, were first out. As they headed down the second leg towards the second turn mark, with the Australian outfit catching, Spirit of Norway drifted across leaving Barry-Cotter and McGrath with no- where to go. “I could see what they were trying to do. They were squeezing us, but we managed to get past the first mark. We had the better straight line speed and I knew if we could get beside them we would have the next mark. But either way it was going to get messy. We were about two feet behind when they moved across. I tried to steer away but the front end caught the wake and their rooster and up she went.” said McGrath, with Barry-Cotter, adding. “I knew it was coming seconds before it happened. We had no chance. I just braced myself, tightened my belts and reached for the airbag and hung on because I knew we were going over. At that speed you are helpless.”
