Default Engine accident leaves my dad in the hospital

My 76 yr old Dad was hanging over the engine compartment while working on his Wellcraft cruiser. His hand slipped and he fell in head first. He fell so deep that he got him self wedged in & could not get out. This was Friday and the boat was still in dry dock in a marina on Long Island. He dangled head first in the compartment for almost two hours until someone finally heard him banging & calling. The guys that came to help could not get him out, neither could the paramedics. Someone from the marina had to take off parts from the engine. He is extremely bruised, dehydrated and they think he may have had a mild heart attach. He will be in the hospital until at least Sunday because they are running a lot of tests. Typical boater all he cared about was that my mother and sister went back to the marina to check on the boat and make sure it was covered! It is frustrating being here in MI there is not much I can do, my Mom said he will be fine, so please keep your fingers crossed and say a prayer that she is correct . Donna

Ms. PTY, if he was worried about the boat, I'm sure he'll be okay. Deb's and my prayers are with him, and you and your family.

Been there.....done that!!!

Not making fun, but I have gotten deep into the engines and not been able to get out without drawing blood.

I'm sure his ego is bruised worst than the rest of his body!!! Glad he is OK.

I hope at 76 I can still move well enough to wrench my own boat. I admire his strenght. Best wishes for a speedy recovery and advise him to start writing a really good ole salt yarn about the time his boat tried to eat him alive
