It all depends on the water your in, flat or just the right about of chop, how loaded the boat is. Salt water or fresh water. Thats why I said around 75. One day you might have 4 people in it and the water is glassy the next it might have a 1.5 feet of chop. So 74 one time 76 the next. I dont know of any boat that hits the same mph every time. Look at the speeds in the kilo runs some of those guys are 5-8 mph off from run to run in the same day.

Remember the 496 HO has 425 hp the 500's 470 HP so if you run the 496's hard you will still get a good mph out of them. You don't have near as much grunt in the 496 so when you have to get in and out of the gas it takes longer to wind it back up. If you are looking to buy you might want to think about a 31 with 496's or a 386 with 500's or bigger. I hear the 358 can be a little tricky to drive.

If I were buying a boat now and wanted stock power it would have to be 525efi's that is a great motor, then put Wipples on it later and you have almost 800 hp.

Here is the test on a 99 358 so with the lighter layup now you see 1 or 2 more.

lapse of reason thanks for the info i tried accessing that site cant seem to find it as far as the difference in the 496 and 500 hp your right i want the cuddy of the 358 and the speed of my 26 it does 76 -80 again depending on water conditions. i have the 500 now and really like it but I'm looking for the warrenty of the 496 plus the difference in price between the two for only 90 hp. if the 496 with a xr drive will do 75 all day thats what i would go with. as far as super chargers i would love to put one on but nobody sells 91+ octane on the river where I'm at. so i don't want to be limited on where and how far i can go. thanks again.
