Default Setting up a top gun

1993 Top Gun..standard drives.

I have head the the X is pretty conservative. Anyone use shorter drives with any success?

Also I have seen both 3 and 4 blade props run. What are you seeing the best over all performance with and best overall top speed?

Had a 94 Top-Gun with 600 Hawks and the 4-blade Hydromotives worked the best OVERALL. Both getting on plane and top end...
Regards

OK, not much action here, what about adding sportmaster lowers?

I would think with all the cigs someone would have done some experimenting with this and the X

I'll be installing a pair of Konrad 540HP drives very soon. They are 1.5" shorter than my TRS. Sould be interesting, I'm going to try a pair of 5 blades too.

OK, now we're getting somewhere. Are you replacing TRS drives of bravo drives?

I played with X dimensions and extension boxes on several flat bottom (non stepped) hulls and did not get any better performance really. The best improvement was changing from TRS to Bravo and we went up 1/2" that seemed to work pretty good out of the hole and also good top end. One inch up I had too much prop slip hard to plane (lots of blow out) and less top speed by 2mph. Extension boxes and several X adjustments caused the boat to porpoise constanly. With 975hp a side and standard X we got 93mph full fuel, people, and adult beverages.

Almost forgot we ran Hydromotives and Bravo 1 4 Blades
