Removing some decals from white gelcoat and the area underneath is a slightly different shade. What is the best way to blend it back in?

unfortunatly there isnt any way to bring those colors back togather. usually the fading runs pretty deep. how old is the boat?

It's a '95 Velocity. The fade isn't bad but enough for me to notice.

well . .about the only option is to try and wetsand past it. sorry to say but i have been in this biz for about 15 years and have never seen it done successfully. gel coat seems to have an opaqueness at the surface that caries the fade deep into the gel. sorry for the bad news

Try FINESE, 3M makes it. Use it with a cutting wheel not a polishing wheel then wax. Mine was the same way. After 2 years still looks new.

I had to 600 grit the area around the graphics to fade it together. After the 600 use 1000 or 1200 grit and then use aquabuff or 3m compound then finesse it. It will work well enough, you won't notice but unless you want to w/s and buff the whole boat it as good as it gets.

I took some decals off my stinger and they left some of those faded spot you speak of. I wetsanded the sides fist with 1000 then with 1500 and followed up with 3M-Finessit......you can still make out where it was but only when up close or when the sun is super bright and you are standing directly infront of it. I actually think the sun helped the gel blend a bit together as well. Granted i dont know how long the stickers where on the boat before me...but it worked for me

I appreciate all the help. I have one on the top deck that I was afraid to pull off. I'll try to blend the ones on the sides first and see how they turn out.

I have been using a product from Germany for
years called "GLASURIT SANDFIX" It comes in different
grits and works very well for Gel-Coat.
I get mine by the case from a friend in Germany and
they have a website.
It is Distributed by BASF Corp. In Dearborn Mi.

Glassdave have you ever tried this product?? I would
be interested to hear if anyone else has had goodluck
using it.
