Anybody do performance modifications on Yamaha Zuma 50 cc scooters? Runs 42 m.p.h. stock but can run over 60 with some bolt-ons. Any pro's/cons on modifying and any recommendations on suppliers or shops for service?

When we rent scooters in Key west,the first thing we do rip the air box off and throw it away, then ram a screwdriver down the exhaust and blow out the baffle

I built a Yamaha scooter once that I used for a pit bike at motocross races. It ran 57 MPH. (not safely...it was sketchy at that speed ). I shaved the head to bump compression (had to run race gas) but smelled pretty damn cool for a scooter, found an a expansion exhaust system at a buddies motorcycle shop and coned him out of it (this is key you goota geta decent exhaust for any 2 stoke to run worth a crap), made carbon fiber reeds out of 250 CC reeds (were big enough to machine the scooter reeds from), ported the cylinder slightly. No air box ran K&N filter. You will have to jet it of course, at least check it. I had to adjust the counter weights in the CVT for the torque curve. Was cool, would rev to about 2500 RPM before it engaged like a high per torque converter. Would wheelie all day long . Fun project.
