If you are just starting out, start with a gravity feed HVLP.
If you learn with a suction feed and go to an HVLP, there's a little bit of an adjustment period. So if you're new to painting go HVLP.
For a reasonably priced gravity HVLP try the Ccraftsman 15531.
It's around $100 and works ALLOT better than the swap meet HVLP guns, really. I used them side by side
If you've got the tall coin, it's hard to beat a SATA.

I Still grab my SATA jet B it is not a HLVP. Its all preference.
I guess if I was starting out I would learn on a HLVP.
I have several From Devilbliss to Craftsman Sata is my favorite. Pick a quality one... clean it thoroughly after each use and it will provide years of use.
Make sure you run a inline Chemical dryer.

I use 2 different guns.. A old binks suction feed gun. Learned on it 15 yrs ago and still love it. Also have a new devilbliss HVLP, still getting used to it, some things its great and other applications I prefer the old binks.. Did this hood today with the devilbliss

Before you spend any $ check the CFM rating of your compressor, then buy a gun with CFM rating to match.
For part time use aftermarket gun would be fine.
SATA NR2000 15.5 cfm
SATA NR2000 RP 10.3 cfm
Iwata LPH400 9.0 cfm
Devilbess GTI 9.5 cfm
3M new gun 14.0cfm not sure model #
Walcom FX 8-10cfm
Walcom (slim hvlp) 6.6 cfm
most SATA copies are about 10 cfm
Remember it's not pressure its CFM.

I love it when I get on these forums and see nothing but good talk about my Spray guns..........
Its true that the SATA Gun uses higher CFM`S.......Just remember with the higher CFM there is more Air Cap Pressure which makes the Gun lay down the Material much smoother compared to the other Guns out there on the Market.....which will create a lot less Cutting and Buffing....
also I wonder why they are all making Copies of the SATA GUN not any of the others??????I am thinking they are copying the Best out there....
Anyways thanks again for all the great comments on the SATA Gun..
