I am about to move to LT and trying to size up where to get a slip and how much to pay for it. I'd like to own one (I think) and pay only maintenance, not rent.
So for a 36' boat, how much should I expect to pay to own a slip?
Historically, how cheap have they been, and how high have they gone?
What marinas sell slips, versus just renting them?

Lake Travis Marina in Hudson Bend sells slips. I believe they start at around $30,000. They are basically dockominiums and you pay monthly fees and taxes just like real property. Welcome to Austin. Let me know if you need help finding a place on or near the lake.

The rates vary from $500-$750 per month, but the BIG problem is getting one! There is a waiting list at most Marinas. And they want you to pay a year in advance!
Check with: Hurst Harbor, Lakeway Marina, Lake Travis Marina, or the marina at Carlos & Charlies. There is a new Marina being built near Lakeway that will be open next summer with all larger slips (35 and up). Good Luck!

Good luck. We were number 47 on the list last year at North Shore. Not expecting a phone call for at least another year. Another marina in the Sandy Creek arm has 73 folks on the waiting list as of a month ago. Be careful abt boat sellers saying the the slip goes with the boat. The marina managers I spoke to do not see it that way. You can buy the boat, but you go to the bottom of the list for the slip.
I did see some slips on Craigslist for Lake Austin (a river) but they are for small boats.
Update: Just looked at the Lake Travis Marina site. They have 9'X20' covered slips with or w/o lift. Assuming that's too small for ya.
At one time they were selling slips, but don't think they are anymore.

We are on Canyon Lake bout an hour-1.5 South, smaller lake, "Suntex" owns our marina and a few on Travis also. We pay just over a grand a month, 50' slip, 3 year wait for a slip so you pay it or someone else will.
