Question 7.4mpi STALL?

I have a boat with a 7.4mpi runs great. Yesterday after a run across the lake when cutting the throttles back to stop it stalled? Any ideas? was a cool day 55-59 degrees. It just had a full tune, filters, timing, etc. And iyt did it on leaving the same marina where it did it coming in. That time it was running at 2000rpm and I cut it to idle and it stalled then never did it again that day. It did seem to turn over a litlle bit longer that nrmal to restart. It concerns me because I only have 1 engine and havent had that for a few years now, THANKS!! for ideas!

with the engine not running remove the flame arrestor and open up the throttle plate and inspect for any carbon built up
around the inside of the throttle body,if you have any carbon
get some carb cleaner and clean it, sometimes also using an old tooth brush cleans it good.

I have Twins and had the same thing happen with one of the engines a few weeks ago. The next week it did it again, only when we finally got it restarted it sounded like chit! Turns out I dropped a valve and banged kup the piston pretty bad. Doing complete rebuild as we speak.
Check compression/ and or leak down test just in case. Good Luck

Is it possible when coming off plane fast and the water rushes up to the transom for the rush of water to create enough back pressure to stall an engine? I ran the boat today and it ran fine no stall or hint of it?My exhaust tips sit pretty close to the water, they are a litlle longer than past boat I had.

Sounds like what happened to me when I mistakenly ran Ethanol in that motor.
