Default 502 mpi temp?

does anyone know the factory thermostat temp on a 99' 502? Mine is running 180-200 water, don't know the oil temp. The reason I ask is the exhaust manifolds have the paint burned off 3" out from the heads and I know this isn't normal. After running for 5 minutes or so @ WOT when I stop the steam coming out of the exhaust is awful. However I can place my hand on them. I have a new raw water pump and water flows through the exhaust at all times. Any help greatly appreciated...Heath

I think it has a 165 thermostat. My 454 Mag MPI usually ran around 170-175. Sounds like you are running a little warm or not getting an accurate reading.

The temp was usually consistant with my motor. Regardless of air or water temp. It never got up to 200.

Captndonzi,

I have 502's in my Sonic and the thermostats in them are should be 180's. There reason for the high temps is to burn off the condensation in the moter on initial startup and running. This helps eliminate water in the valve covers also...Hope this helps.......
