Anybody knows anything about Obsession catamarans?
#1
A friend of mine just bought what he claims to be an Obsession 28 catamaran with a single HP500. He took it in a P/X deal so he is not that bothered but would like to know more about them and about their value. Anybody knows something? Thanks...

There used to be one around here... was painted kinda ugly too... but it seemed to run o.k. with twin stock big blocks... haven't seen it in years... I looked at it at a dealer once many years ago... back when I was still an offshore rookie... so I didnt' really know what to look for... seemed "cool" at the time, but in retrospect, it wasn't put together all that well from what I remember... but like I said, it's been a while.

I think Obsession Boats were a spinoff of the Shawno Wisconsin based Eliminator boat company. They were produced in the early 90's, most I've seen had fairly gaudy paint schemes . They're no Eliminator in quality or resale from what I've seen. Steve

Yeah, gaudy, that's a good word. The one I saw here looked like a white and purple cow from a distance. I believe there is an Obsession Cat for sale in the back of the latest issue of Extreme Boats Magazine.

I remember an old Hot Boat article...I think it had a higher freeboard than Eliminators. Looked more like a Chris Cat. Yep, big tear-drop, bubble gum, paint schemes. I remember it being a fairly quirky, but well-screwed together piece. More comfort than race. I'll see if I can dig up the article...

Here's a little larger model, but should give you the flavor...

I friend of mine had a 25 with about 1000 hp, he could not top the century mark. It always ran in the high nineties. I agree with that everyone else has posted. These boats have tons of freeboard and are built strong, very heavy boat. They ride great!!!

Obsessions were the old Eliminator molds that Elim unloaded when they moved out west. I looked at 24' ModVp Obsession (I'm blanking on what Eliminator called them) and found that it had a massive hook in it. The hook was so large that it had to be dialed in from the factory. Proably was a easy solution to a porpoise problem.
