Non-stepped hull drive question

I know my drives are set low so I'm looking to find out how low. The prop shaft centerline is 7" below the running surface directly in front of the drive. I'd like to see how this compares to other newer non-step hull Fountains. Mine is a 1988 with Bravo 1 drives. Info on this will help me determine if shorter lowers or raised boxes will help me out in the speed department.

Im right there with you.
Im repowering my 93 42 non step and would like to use the new IMCO SC drives that just came out.
I was told that a 1" shorter lower would help but need to know more before making a decision.
A friend of mine also has a 42 non step BIG power Fountain with SSM#3s and they are mounted all the way up to the swim platform.
Its a bit tough to get on plain...after that it rocks and kicks a tail up like a #5/#6 drive boat.
But maybe there is a number (X-dimension wise) that the non step boats like best.
This guy named Rod from Performance Marine in Wiscosin has a lot of experiance with repowering Fountains.
Their link is on the "Marine Links" page.
