there are a bunch of lakes in Michigan with a 3 hour drive. Gull Lake, Gun Lake Some nice ones near Paw Paw or South haven also. I'm not sure of the names. Then there are always one of the ports on Lake Michigan.

Spring Lake to Chicago.... 135 miles. As for time on the road, it's really traffic dependent. 2 hours one day, 3 hours another day. I've been to Marks house... it's sweet... and his bayou is nice... you can fish in it, swim in it off the end of the dock, etc...
Stay away from Gun Lake. It's really busy, kinda murky, and really shallow in many spots. It's a prop shops best friend! Gull Lake is much cleaner, deeper, and in my little ole opinion, a nicer all around lake. But there are tons of small lakes between say, Grand Haven and Chicago. I'd say 100 possible lakes to choose from is not a high guess. Tell him to call a realator in south west Michigan. I'm sure they'd love to sell a piece of lake front property!!! Or just buy Mark's place... it needs nothing!
