Back pressure/baffle? what would you do?
#1
2 seasons ago I had stock 454 mags running thru stock Merc exhaust. With baffles. Toward the end of the season I took out the baffles and lost 25-50 rpms
Last season I installed Merc/Gil exhast manifolds and picked up those lost rpms. I had hoped for a few more.
This winter I installed a Crane 242 cam, Gold roller rockers and 830 Holleys. With all the talk of mufflers and nois laws, I am wondering if I should put my baffles back in.
Do you think the added back pressure will negate some of the benifit of the cam and carb?
They are glasspack style baffles with no solid plate.

More than likely now that you have made the motors breathe better the baffles will hurt your performance more than on the stock motors. How much will only be determined when you try them out!!
