i have a 26ft searay that has a rotten transom &stringers
starboard side is rotten thru out port side is not as bad
the stingers are rotten up to the gas tank which i about 5ft
from the stern i know it is rotten further up thats far as i
can go without pulling the gas tank
i have had two so called glass guys come out here to look
at my delemma
one wants to cut out the ass end of the boat redo the gel
coat (how is he going to match the color?)
& rip out the stringers which are probley ate up clear into the cabin MASSIVE AMOUNT OF WORK
THE OTHER SAYS YOU DON'T MESS WITH THE FORM OF
THE BOAT ,YOU CUT IT OUT FROM THE INSIDE &THE STRINGERS DON'T HAVE TO BE REPLACED ALL THE WAY UP
JUST IN THE ENGINE CONPARTMENT
SEE MORE HISTORY IN THREAD (WHY AM I BLOWING CLUTCHES)
WHO DO I BELEIVE IN EC
THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR ALL REPLIES

the transom should be done from inside. unfortunately a rule of thumb is you only see about half of the damage, the rest will show its self once you get into it. as long as the stringers are good from the first bulkhead forward you can replace them in the engine compartment alone but it should be done by someone experienced with this type of repair. transom and stringer replacement is a very large undertaking any way you look at it.

sounds like a pretty big project. if you try and repair the stringers in just the engine compartment you could have a potential problem at that joint where the badstringers are on the other side of the bulkhead. the running surface will want to flex and could cause a faliure right there.
sorry but i dont know any glass guys in that area. wish i could help more. do you have any larger pics of the engine compartment? just wondering about bulkhead placement on that boat.
i think Fred (Too Old) of TRick Marine is in NC. contact him and i'm sure he will know someone what with all the project boats he has had
also have you though of takeling this project yourself? there is alot of good info and knowlegable people on this site to help you through it.

do you have access to the stringers at the front of that forward bulkhead or do you have to cut the floor? it looks like the stringer and engine mount are glassed togather. are they both rotted out inside?

There is a product called Seacast that is a pourable resin/fiberglass mix that you could use for the stringers. Cut the top off the stringers, clean out the rotted wood and pour this stuff in. Then cap the stringers with a layer of fiberglass. Their website says that Callen Marine used Seacast for the transom of their twin turbine 55 footer because wood flexed too much.
