Any engine builders that offers a reliable turbo motor?

Have heard good things about turbo motors over blower motors, but technology is just now available to make them reliable in high hp marine engines. Who can successfully make, and stand behind a turbo motor with a warranty?

I don't understand why there isn't more turbo motors out there. I built a chevy with twin race aero turbos several years ago, I don't think there even in buss. any more but wow that sucker ran. It was a carb motor and that took a little while to get worked out but I would think anyone that builds good blower motors could do what you want. I know Gale Banks also made a turbo for marine app. but don't know if they still do. Mine had a intercooler which is a must. Also it was fairly quiet which might be a plus, there was some lag in boost which you don't get with other blowers but maybe thats good, maybe easier on the drives. And I loved the sound of that turbo whine. I guess there is a reason more are not built but I don't know why, Maybe someone will tell us that knows more than me. And theres some advantage to not turning a belt no h.p loss. With the wipple shortage maybe something some will look at.

Cant believe someone is not building these motors. they have to be far superior to blower motors. Does Mesa, Pfaff, Eickert, Sterling or TMP make them. Mercury is secretly working on one. There will be a need very shortly for them with sound aand hp restraints on blowers.

20 years ago turbos were the hot setup. Gentry built his own then offered turnkey motors. Merc even experimented with them. If I recall, the biggest problem was heat from the turbine. If you jacketed the turbine housing, it killed the power. If you didn't, you got too much heat in the bilge. Banks originally made those shrouds but they didn't work all that well. I know a couple people who had problems- Mark Donohue's old Awesome 35 even sank as a result.
If memory serves, Merc came out with some sort of dry insulation that solved the problem but APBA wouldn't approve it as it violated their completely-watercooled-exhaust rule.

The setup I ran had water jackets on the turbos also a friend had the same setup in his spectre neither had any problems at all and we ran them hard. It just seems the way to go to me, you have cool lake water for the intercoolers and turbos, someone help me who started the company race aero? I can't remember now I'm getting old. Seems like he had something to do with warlock or eliminator, oh well I can't think of anything neg. about turbos myself but I'm no expert.

All the big diesel engines have turbos and are water cooled for the most part. At least over the last decade or so. I wondered about the noise of the compressor/blower apps. I know that they are loud on cars. You can hear a blower car coming around a corner.
I like the fuel consumption angle on the Mesa project. Can't wait to see that thing!

It's not just APBA, the Code of Federal Regulations requires water jackets on exhaust and turbos. It just makes good sense too when you think about the potential for disaster. I'd gladly give up 50 hp per motor to not live in fear of igniting the tail end of my boat! If you have ever seen a hot turbo setup on the dyno with the lights out, it will make you a believer in water jackets!
I messed around with marinizing a turbodiesel w/o water jackets. I heat taped the crap out of everything, and managed to keep myself out of trouble with radiant heat, but man, it was no fun trying to even do anying in that bilge for hours after running.
