Just spoke with a Mercury Racing Tech on oil types in the new 525Efi. He clearly stated not to use Mobil one or any other synthetic oil as they become too thin during hard operation.
The reason I contacted them was I changed oil this weekend to Mobil 1 Gold Cap and noticed an increase in oil temp. Using the old Red Cap 15-50 oil temp range was 190 -220, the Gold Cap 15-50 range went to 190 - 230.
I have had Mercury Racing engines since 1995 and have always ran Mobil 1 15 -50 I'm now concerned that this may not be the way to go.
Any thoughts or opinions?
