was looking at the old school cig race boat chatam racing just bougt to restore (where have all the old raceboats gone thread) and the tabs on that thing are at least twice as big as the ones on my 35 cig. what is the benifit of the huge tabs? does a longer tab make your boat ride out as though it were a longer boat? thx for any info, ratman

You will appreciate the big tabs if you run in rough water or if the boat is propped for speed. They will help to hold it or get the bow down.

Rough water ??? I don't think more than a handfull of people here can appreciate rough water.

I put the bigger ones because the tips are narrower. I dont have to put the down as far when its at 100 to stableize it as much

the wide tabs provide more running surface to prevent chine walk at high speeds when the hull gets up out of the water

I can say for my twin engine 28' cat it made a BIG difference
Ewnt from a 15" tab under the notch to a 30" tab on the transom
Basically added 2'+ to my boat.
I can plane slower, carry a load better and top end not effected at all.

Was it totally necessary to make the cuts? I'm plannig smae conversion on a FOrmula SR357 with TRS drives.
