Dyno Results - Whipple'd 454 mag

Had one of the motors pulled this week and ran on the dyno. Like always, numbers were slightly less than I had expected. I thought I was running around 550hp last summer, but was about 20 hp short of my estimate. I guess I wasn't too far off, I've heard far worse exaggerated numbers.
However, I had new throttle bodies installed that bumped the numbers up to the original 550 hp estimate (551 to be exact
). I was thinking about raising the boost level from 6 to 8 psi, but the new throttle body actually raised the pressure to just a touch over 7 psi. Not sure if I want to go much more than that on a stock 454 mag.
Anyway, here's the link to the dyno results:

If the picture link doesn't work, go to my Boat's Home Page and look for the link there.

Rick,
I'm anywhere between 87 and 90 mph, all depending on conditions. I figure that's about accurate since a Dominator with HP500's has similar numbers. Those videos I posted a while back were the fastest she ever ran. I wold suspect that with a set of Whip'ed HP500's you would be knocking on the triple digits door. Not sure if you would actually break into them, but you would be damn close.
Do it, you will not be disappointed!!!
With a set of Whipple Charged HP500's, you would forever secure your place in Sunsation Heaven.

Bayley, what cam are you running. My 454 w/Whipple, 5 lbs of boost, 8:1 J&E Blower Pistons, Inconel valves, no head work and 750 CFM Holley made 625HP on the Dyno. I think the biggie for me was the cam from Crane that Dustin recommended. I have the Dyno sheets and will get a scanner this w/e to post them.

Bayley nice web sit you have. I noticed in one of the pictures you have a Ford Super Duty to pull your boat. Is it Diesel or gas? What are you getting for milage towing an regular driving.
Why did you go with Spinelli, over Mercury or Hydromotive for your new props just curious.
Thanks Kirk

Kirk,
The Super Duty is gas. The premium for the Diesel wasn't worth the extra money for the amount of towing the truck would be doing. Around town, it gets about 15 - 16 mpg, towing is around 10 - 11 depending on terrain.
As for the reason the boat has Spinelli's, this was decided because Spinelli was willing to work the props over until they were "just right". It worked out OK, since a 32' would probably be too big and a 30' would be too small.
Jeff,
I showed Dustin a copy of the Dyno sheet. Like any other after-market supplier, he said the numbers should be bigger. Of course, Dustin did make a good point that the 150 degree temps were a lot higher than what should have been run. True. The motors usually see about 100F max temperature. With a 50 degree difference, I wouldn't be surprised to see a 12% drop in power output (PV = nRT). The motor still has the stock MerCruiser Cam in it. Maybe next year I'll go through the head, cam and valve train. I'm done for this year though. It's time to drive it!
Thanks for the kind words on the web site everyone.
