Gman,
Extreme Marine is the company that makes them for most of the OEMs including Baja. They are expensive from Extreme Marine around $2000.00 with a ladder $1600.00 without.
I built one for my Scarab with a little help from my old college roomate who now owns a machine shop. He mentioned that he would love to build more of them. He is a degreed mechanical engineer and can model it for you so you can see what it will look like. He can do them alot cheaper than EM. I can give you his email if you are interested. I can send you some pics of mine. I cannot post a picture on this site. I love my platform. The whole family hangs out on it all weekend long.

bbc.
Your buddy would have a full plate if he decides to build them. I had Extreme do one for me back in 99.. Got a real deal on it compared to what you say they charge now..
Things I dont care for about mine..
1.) spaces between bars is too close, I can't get a towel with a finger in between to clean it..
2.) rectanglar tubing for the bars. It would feel nicer on the feet if it were oval tubing.
3.) Powdercoating chips and if it is underwater for any length of time.. it will fall off. I have Dana tabs that are just about all cleaned off by gravity. I think they will be ready to paint this winter..
Things I like..
1.) Ladder on each end of the platform.
2.) I had extra tabs welded on to hold the gigantic mufflers I run..
3.) Cool look I get when I pass a slow Baja... *S* That is when it is running.
Tell him to go for it.. he would be busy.
Gman.. they do look very nice on any boat, fast or slow, just wear you soft shoes when you head out for dinner at the marina..
just my .02
